Some of her paintings show fantasy creatures, which could exist somewhere in the distances of the universe, others show purely abstract objects or forms. However they all have one thing in common: Every viewer can interpret each painting differently. "I have no classical motives at all. I create forms and let them develop while painting", describes Claudia Färber, autodidact, from Munich, her unconventional abstract painting style.
The photographer, photo and multimedia designer, born in Munich, has always been fascinated by colours and forms. However, the first time she painted consciously was after a drastic experience at the age of fifteen. In the night after the death of a friend, inspired by a Paul Klee exhibition, she painted different coloured triangles which depended and were connected to each other. Today, a few years later she is aware that it was her only way to digest this tragedy.
Unlike other artists Claudia Färber had a long way to find her destiny. The different stages she went through, she sees as a developing procedure to get where she desired: A high school degree with the main subjects being music and chemistry, a broken off physics degree at the university of Munich, training as a multimedia designer, programmer, project manager, and several other employments. "I do not regret any step I took, after all it all led me to what I am now".
In 1986 she became an independent photographer and travelled on behalf of different newspapers, magazines and agencies for instance to Uzbekistan, Morocco, Bali, India, and Brazil. There in the Brazilian Salvador de Bahia she got settled for a year and a half, from where she undertook quite a few trips to the rainforest of the Amazons. "The variety and blaze of colours of the tropical rain forest, fascinated and inspired me to exchange the camera for brushes and canvas", remembers the new born artist.
For some time she lived in the most simple conditions with the Natives in the Amazon region. They gave her the nick name: "Rainbow Woman", due to her passion for strong colours. Claudia Färber: "This was one of the most beautiful times of my life because I felt completely free and in harmony with nature. Here I also learned not only to sense the colours visually, but to literally feel them."
It is not per chance that painting is a highly emotional experience to her, which she does not want to miss out on: "I love to feel fresh paint on my fingers and to distribute it onto the canvas." This physicality whilst painting is the reason why she often prefers to use fingers and fingernails instead of the "normal" painting utilities such as brushes, or sponges. Beside of that she also uses sticks, preferably chopsticks. She usually paints and scratches with acryl on canvas or with mixed material such as acryl and oil sticks on canvas or cardboard.
"I paint, because to me it is the most liberating existing form of expression", states Claudia Färber. "Unlike actors and musicians who must hold on to predefined texts or scores, during painting I am the composer, poet, actor, and director all at once." At the same time, painting is to her a sensual experience: Letting go of feelings and their transmission onto canvas, is to her not only a creative act but also a way of cleaning the inner world of emotions. The "Rainbow Woman" wants to share her passion with each viewer and let him participate. For that reason she calls her paintings "Emotions in Colour".
